As the automotive industry undergoes rapid, technology-driven transformation on a global scale, Audi has answered the call with a definitive technological flagship. Meet the Audi Nuvolari—the fastest and most powerful production vehicle in the history of the brand. With an astonishing 1,001 PS and a top speed exceeding 350 km/h, the Nuvolari sets an unparalleled benchmark for modern performance.
Named after Tazio Nuvolari, one of motorsport’s most legendary and fearless figures, this masterpiece blends Formula 1 engineering with Audi’s new design philosophy. Highly exclusive, production will be strictly limited to 499 units worldwide, with initial deliveries slated for the first half of 2027.
F1-Inspired Powertrain: 1,001 PS of Unbridled Power
At the core of the Audi Nuvolari is a high-performance hybrid powertrain that pushes the boundaries of road-legal engineering. The system pairs a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine—capable of revving to an extraordinary 10,000 rpm—with three axial flux electric motors (two on the front axle and one integrated with the transmission). Together, they deliver a staggering maximum system output of 736 kW (1,001 PS).
This immense power translates to breathtaking acceleration: 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, and 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Utilizing a 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, the powertrain employs F1-derived launch control and energy management strategies, seamlessly deploying electrical energy for explosive acceleration and recuperating it during deceleration.
Mastering the Elements: quattro predictive ride
Audi’s legendary all-wheel-drive system has evolved into the next generation: the quattro predictive ride. By analyzing steering angle, yaw rate, and grip levels in real-time, the system anticipates potential loss of traction before it occurs.
It proactively manages the twin electric motors at the front axle for precise torque vectoring, harmonizing with targeted brake interventions and active downforce adjustments. Drivers can tailor this sophisticated system via rotary controls on the steering wheel, offering four distinct modes:
- E-Hybrid: Purely electric driving for urban environments.
- Balanced: The optimal blend of comfort, efficiency, and power.
- Dynamic: Sharpened responses for enhanced agility.
- Dynamic+: Configured entirely for a visceral, emotional driving experience.
For the track, an advanced “Track Mode” allows fine-tuning of traction control from ‘Wet’ all the way to ‘TC Off’, granting the driver total command at the physical limits.
Active Aerodynamics and the Carbon Audi Space Frame
The Nuvolari is the first Audi production vehicle to fully embody the brand’s new, reduced design philosophy—characterized by taut surfaces and a powerful, monolithic stance. Crucially, it introduces a carbon exterior paired with the proven Audi Space Frame (ASF). Manufactured using F1-grade prepreg autoclave technology, the CFRP components provide immense structural rigidity while keeping weight to an absolute minimum.
Aero efficiency dictates the form. A vented front “S-duct” reduces lift and optimizes cooling, while a deployable adaptive rear wing acts as the centerpiece of the active aerodynamics system. The wing operates across three configurations (Closed, Low Downforce, High Downforce) and can generate over 400 kg of downforce. It even features a manually activated Drag Reduction System (DRS), straight from the Formula 1 playbook.
Stopping power is equally formidable. The new brake-by-wire Audi Ceramic Pro system features ten-piston front calipers and F1-derived long-fiber carbon discs. Capable of absorbing up to 2.8 megawatts of energy, it offers fade-free performance even under grueling track conditions. Center-lock forged wheels also make their debut in an Audi production model.
A Driver-Centric Cockpit Honoring a Racing Legend
The Nuvolari’s interior is a masterclass in focused, driver-centric luxury. The cabin is conceptually split: the front section is finished in a deep, concentration-enhancing dark tone, while the rear features a contrasting, lighter “Shadow Dune” shade. Digital displays and anodized aluminum controls are logically positioned to minimize distraction, and color accents in the HMI subtly pay homage to the legendary Auto Union Type C race cars of the 1930s.
“The Audi Nuvolari stands for exclusivity, performance, and the ultimate in desirability,” states Marco Schubert, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing. As a tangible manifestation of Vorsprung durch Technik, the Nuvolari is not just a supercar; it is a bold declaration of Audi’s electrified, high-performance future.
