Electric Rickshaw reusing waste batteries from BEVs.

The German-Indian start-up Nunam has introduced electric rickshaws (like three-wheeled taxis that mainly transport people) in India, powered by used batteries taken from an Audi e-tron test vehicle.

Nunam received funding from the Audi Environmental Foundation to develop three prototypes in cooperation with the training team at Audi’s Neckarsulm plant, making this the first joint project by Audi AG, the Audi Environmental Foundation and Nunam. The aim of the project is to explore how the high-voltage battery modules developed for electric vehicles can be re-used after the life cycle of the vehicle and become a feasible second-life use case, and also to provide electric rickshaws for transporting goods, thereby providing women in India with employment It also aims to enhance opportunities for women in India.
