In March 1998, Subaru Tecnica International (STi) unveiled the Impreza 22B-STi, a special limited-edition model celebrating Subaru’s third consecutive WRC Manufacturers’ Championship title in 1997. With only 400 units produced, the 22B-STi became an instant legend, embodying the spirit of Subaru’s rally dominance.

The 22B-STi was engineered to deliver an authentic rally-inspired driving experience. Under the hood, it featured a 2.2L EJ22 turbocharged boxer engine, upgraded from the standard 2.0L to 2212cc. Officially rated at 280PS, the engine delivered an exceptionally flat torque curve between 2800-5200rpm and revved smoothly up to 7900rpm. The close-ratio transmission was reinforced with upgraded materials, and a twin-plate clutch ensured durability and precision in power delivery.
Suspension upgrades included specially tuned Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs, ensuring superior handling dynamics. The 22B-STi rode on gold-finished 17-inch forged BBS wheels wrapped in 235/40R17 high-performance tires.
