At RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale held on 15–16 August 2025, a 1991 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione sold for $173,600 USD. More than just a rally legend, this car represents a true “time capsule” — one of the finest surviving examples of the breed.

Born for Homologation

Launched in 1991 to meet Group A regulations, the Evoluzione featured widened tracks, flared arches, bonnet vents, a larger grille, and a rear spoiler for improved cooling and aerodynamics. Underneath, Lancia fitted uprated twin-piston brakes, reinforced suspension, a front strut brace, and a larger steering box. The remapped 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four produced 210 horsepower, surpassing the landmark 100-horsepower-per-liter threshold for the first time in Delta history.

A Family Treasure Preserved for Over 30 Years

Delivered new in December 1991 to Auto 2000 in Terni, Italy, this Evoluzione was purchased by a San Gemini resident who instructed the dealer to leave all protective coverings intact. The dealer principal even scrawled on the dash cover in red lipstick: “Do not remove cellophane. Do not wash. Do not remove sponges from inside the engine bay.”
Retained by the original owner’s family until 2024, the car shows just 6,550 km (~4,070 miles) and remains in unrestored, factory-preserved condition.

Rare Specification and True Homologation Status

Finished in White with Green perforated Alcantara, this Evoluzione was fitted with a rare list of factory options: Recaro seats, Bosch ABS, Clarion head unit, air conditioning, and a split rear seat. It was also delivered without a sunroof, underlining its performance focus.
Most significantly, this car is among the reported 200 “true” homologation examples, equipped with a special-purpose water bag system designed to cool the turbo intercooler during competition use. Unlike most, this car retains its factory-connected system, complete with 1991 date-coded hoses.

A Genuine Time Capsule

Still wearing its original 1991 tires, this Lancia retains factory markings, wax, and protective plastics throughout. Its originality is further underscored by the completeness of its documentation and accessories, making it one of the most authentic Integrales in existence.
The Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione stands as one of the late 20th century’s most revered performance icons. With rally-bred DNA, analog character, and exquisite balance, few cars deliver such soul. This remarkably preserved example, with its rare specifications and unique provenance, is truly one of the best — a crown jewel for any serious collector.
