A Classic Reimagined with Modern Toyota Engineering
At the 2025 SEMA Show, Toyota unveiled the Turbo Trail Cruiser — a bespoke build that blends the iconic charm of the 1985 Land Cruiser FJ60 with cutting-edge performance from the modern i-FORCE twin-turbo V6. This project embodies the ultimate resto-meets-hot-rod philosophy, preserving the FJ60’s heritage character while elevating its capability with Toyota’s latest engineering.
i-FORCE Twin-Turbo Power Meets Classic 4×4 Soul
Under the hood lies Toyota’s 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, producing 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Nearly double the original inline-six output, the modern engine brings instant boost, refined drivability, improved efficiency, and reduced emissions — making the classic Land Cruiser feel exceptionally smooth, powerful, and modern.
Built to Look Factory-Original
Uniquely, the Turbo Trail Cruiser was engineered to appear as if Toyota could have built it in the 1980s. No firewall cutting, no structural changes — only precision-crafted mounts, custom machining, and a tailored wiring harness ensure seamless integration and factory-grade durability.
Authentic Design, Modernized Capability
Finished in a PPG recreation of Toyota’s 1986 Silver 147, the SUV rides on 35-inch tires with a 1.5-inch lift and shackle reversal. The cabin retains its vintage spirit with discreet JBL audio upgrades, suggesting a vehicle meticulously preserved and subtly enhanced over decades.
A Showcase of Toyota’s Multi-Pathway Vision
Displayed at the Toyota booth, the Turbo Trail Cruiser highlights the continued relevance of internal combustion within Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy — offering choices from ICE and hybrids to BEVs and hydrogen fuel cells for diverse customer needs.
