As the 24 Hours of Le Mans draws near, Porsche has unveiled a remarkable creation: the Porsche 963 RSP, a one-off road-legal version of its Le Mans-winning 963 Hypercar. Inspired by the legendary 917 that once drove on public roads in 1975, the RSP is both a design statement and a motorsport tribute.
The 963 RSP honors the legacy of Count Rossi’s 917, which famously journeyed from Zuffenhausen to Paris nearly five decades ago. Echoing that legendary drive, the RSP was developed by Porsche AG, Porsche Penske Motorsport, and Porsche Cars North America, with motorsport titan Roger Penske lending his initials to its name.
The car retains the DNA of a full-blown race machine, while undergoing substantial modifications for road use. Painted in Martini Silver—a first for the 963 platform, which is usually wrapped—the RSP features redesigned fenders, 917-style wheel vents, and satin black hardware. It rides on 18-inch forged OZ wheels shod with Michelin rain-spec tires.
The interior is where the RSP truly departs from its racing sibling. It boasts a blend of tan leather and Alcantara, a fully re-trimmed cockpit, air-conditioned carbon fiber seats, and even a 3D-printed cupholder. While the materials offer luxury, the minimalist design stays true to motorsport function.
Power comes from a 4.6L twin-turbo V8 hybrid system derived from the RS Spyder and the 918 Spyder. With around 680 hp, the setup includes Bosch-supplied MGU components and a Williams high-voltage battery. The power delivery has been remapped for smoother operation on public roads, with the control unit adapted for turn signals, headlights, and horn functionality.
Debuting near the Circuit de la Sarthe, the 963 RSP is not just a display piece. It’s a rolling celebration of Porsche’s motorsport legacy—street legal under special permission from French authorities, and soon to be exhibited at the Porsche Museum and Goodwood Festival of Speed.
A fusion of past and present, the Porsche 963 RSP embodies the spirit of racing, craftsmanship, and unfiltered automotive passion.
