Renault celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5 by entering three crews in the 24th Monte-Carlo Historique rally from January 27 to February 2, 2022.
The first crew features a 1980 Renault 5 Turbo driven by Alain Serpaggi, accompanied by François Allain as co-driver. The second and third crews comprise Renault 5 Alpines from 1978 and 1980, piloted by Christian Chambord with Patrick Fourestié, and Julien Saunier with Jean-Pierre Prévot, respectively. These teams compete in category IV for vehicles produced between January 1, 1977, and December 31, 1982.
Notably, Renault had previously triumphed in the Monte Carlo rally in 1981 with the R5 Turbo, and the R5 Alpine achieved 2nd and 3rd place in 1978, topping their category.
