Jaguar’s first production model under its new brand identity, the luxury four-door GT Type 01, made its Japan debut on October 29, 2026, at TOKYO NODE in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo.
The unveiling took place during the preview and opening reception of YOSHIROTTEN: BEYOND EARTH, a major solo exhibition by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. As Jaguar accelerates its new brand strategy towards 2027, the Type 01 represents more than simply a new model. It is a defining expression of the brand’s future direction.
Translating the design vision first introduced by the Type 00 concept in 2024 into a production vehicle, the Type 01 combines the heritage of British grand touring with full electrification and a bold new design language. It stands as a symbol of a new generation of Jaguar.
Jaguar Type 01: The First Production Model of the New Jaguar Makes Its Japan Debut
The Type 01 made its world premiere in New York on October 6, 2026, becoming the first production model of Jaguar’s redefined brand.
Configured as a luxury four-door GT, the car is built on Jaguar’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Its bespoke architecture allows for unconventional proportions, freeing the design from many of the traditional constraints of automotive packaging.

Jaguar first announced its intention to transform the brand in 2021. In 2024, it subsequently unveiled a new brand identity and the Type 00 design vision concept, signalling a decisive departure from its established image.
The Type 01 is the first production vehicle to embody Jaguar’s new design philosophy, “Exuberant Modernism.”
Its Japan debut therefore represents an important milestone, as the brand’s transformation moves beyond a conceptual vision and takes shape in a production-ready automobile.
Jaguar’s Ongoing Relationship with Art Through Its Collaboration with YOSHIROTTEN
The choice of YOSHIROTTEN’s BEYOND EARTH exhibition preview as the setting for the Type 01’s Japan debut is particularly noteworthy.
Jaguar and YOSHIROTTEN have an established history of creative collaboration.
In May 2025, marking the Asian premiere of the Type 00 design vision concept, Jaguar presented TOKYO FUTURE 00, an immersive installation created in collaboration with YOSHIROTTEN in Tennozu, Tokyo.
The installation transformed both the Type 00 itself and its surrounding environment through vivid, large-scale projections. YOSHIROTTEN’s distinctive visual language offered visitors an immersive interpretation of Jaguar’s emerging brand identity.

There is a natural affinity between Jaguar’s philosophy of “Copy Nothing” and YOSHIROTTEN’s creative approach, which consistently challenges conventional genres and established forms of expression.
The Type 01’s Japan debut continues this relationship, reflecting Jaguar’s intention to build a new kind of brand experience through meaningful connections with art, music, fashion and contemporary culture.
YOSHIROTTEN: BEYOND EARTH at TOKYO NODE
The exhibition, officially titled YOSHIROTTEN: BEYOND EARTH, runs from October 30, 2026, to January 11, 2027, at TOKYO NODE inside Toranomon Hills Station Tower.
It marks YOSHIROTTEN’s first major solo exhibition in Tokyo in eight years and is the largest presentation of his work to date.
The exhibition brings together works from some of his best-known series, including RGB, FUTURE NATURE and SUN, exploring themes of nature, the universe, light and colour.
Among the highlights are a series of new works developed with the cooperation of JAXA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
These include artworks inspired by data from the X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM), which observes phenomena such as black holes, as well as an installation that translates all-sky X-ray observation data captured from the International Space Station (ISS) into light and sound.
By transforming scientific observations into artistic expressions, the exhibition explores ways of making distant and otherwise imperceptible aspects of the universe accessible through sensory experience.
The exhibition space, situated approximately 200 metres above ground, is conceived as a single spacecraft. Through this immersive environment, visitors are invited to experience the distant reaches of space and dimensions of time beyond everyday perception.
The October 29 preview and opening reception also featured live performances by Dylan Henner and HXH, presented as part of the programme by 29Speedway, a New York-based record label and performance series.
Bringing together automotive design, contemporary art and experimental music, the event offered a cultural experience that went beyond the format of a conventional automotive unveiling.
Jaguar’s Flagship GT and a New Era of Luxury Mobility
Jaguar is undergoing a fundamental transformation, repositioning itself as an all-electric luxury brand.
Within JLR’s brand portfolio, Jaguar is set to occupy a distinct position in the luxury market, separate from the identities of Range Rover, Defender and Discovery.
The Type 01 is the first production model to bring this new direction to life.
With an extraordinary output of 1,030 PS, striking proportions and a bespoke GT architecture developed around electrification, the Type 01 represents an ambitious reinterpretation of Jaguar’s heritage rather than a straightforward continuation of its past.
For the Japanese market, the indicative vehicle prices are set at ¥21.88 million for the Type 01 1030 and from ¥25.52 million for the DESIGN VISION. Orders are scheduled to open in 2027, with customer deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
Through its unconventional design and distinctive approach to brand expression, Jaguar’s philosophy of “Copy Nothing” is beginning to take tangible form.
How will the Type 01 establish its presence in the increasingly competitive luxury EV market? And can Jaguar successfully rebuild the distinctive brand identity that has defined its heritage?
Its Japan debut marks an important milestone in the next chapter of the British marque.
